We live in ‘The Information Age’, also called the Computer Age or the Digital Age, and a vital ingredient for success in this age is access to high-speed connectivity. A business can have access to the most intelligent/innovative technology, but it would be as good as going back to the time before computers without the internet. African countries have had access to sub-sea cables for some time now, but it is not always the most affordable option to explore for local businesses. But the availability of terrestrial fibre has revamped access to connectivity.
With Liquid’s three digital corridors connecting East to West Africa, we have cut the latency across Africa from 250s (between Djibouti and Muanda) to approximately 50ms. But this doesn’t mean that sub-sea cables should be ignored, in fact, terrestrial and sub-sea cables can be used to effectively overcome almost all redundancy and latency challenges that we faced as a continent previously.
If there ever was a time when access to high-speed connectivity was vital for business continuity, it is now! The pandemic gave the necessary push that businesses required to accelerate their digital transformation agendas. However, 4IR and its associated technologies will not work if businesses don’t invest in connectivity providers.
Liquid has 100,000 km of terrestrial fibre, and it has also invested in five sub-sea cables. Liquid customers benefit from our high-redundancy, low latency sub-sea routes and our extensive terrestrial backbone.
